The 2016 relaunch of Longmorn 16 Year Old is already proving popular with connoisseurs.of the amber nectar.. This is a full-bodied and complex whisky, with notes of sweet fruit, spice and heather. We came across it on the recommendation of one of our whisky bibles. We've long since been savouring another C&J favourite: The 12 year old Balvenie, and had been told Longmorn would make an ideal 'step up'. And the book wasn't wrong. This sweet, heathery whisky is delicious. We're still going to enjoy our Balvenie, but Longmorn is becoming one of our special indulgences. Give it a try!
Brought to the market by Images Publishing, the style tome overflows with smart design inspiration. As a showcase for modern Canadian home style, it reveals many aspects of the country's vernacular. From stark rectilinear boxes (fashioned from glass and steel) carved into the landscape, to cosy bunkies that are tight on square footage but maxed out with space saving, the book is a compelling mix of photographic inspiration and informative text. Definitely a title to include in your design library...
The Cade wood, Cedarwood and pepper notes mingle with bergamot to deliver a heady, masculine aroma. In terms of value, at just 42 GBP for 100 ml, it's terrific. Often times, with many other luxury brands, you're buying 50ml as an 'entry' size with a price point perhaps three times the cost of Cade. So great value - and fantastically aromatic. Go sniff the Tom Ford counter and compare the 'notes' to some of his (admittedly GORGEOUS) inventory... but prepare to shell out FOUR times as much...
When we think Swiss, we normally think fondue and Toblerone. But, at the moment, the world seems to be going Raclette crazy. The machine is basically a hot plate with a built in grill. It's not rocket science, but it's oh so clever! On the top hot plate, guests cook little pieces of chicken, beef and pork - or any fave meats - along with vegges to suit individual palettes. Underneath, little trays are loaded with Swiss cheese which melts at the same time as the hot plate morsels are cooking. Traditionally served with boiled potatoes and beer. OMG - DEEEEEEELICIOUS!
There she discovered the practical and the fantastical, elements and styles long adored and ones she never knew she was drawn to. Keaton’s dream house was officially under way and this book that resulted is a compelling account of that house, from idea to realization in brick, stone, and wood. Plus a whole load of other dreamy instagram pics for further inspiration. We're swooning!
Artemano specialises in solid modern furniture, mostly exotic case goods and tables, but they also carry some absolutely amazing upholstery and a fine selection of cool artwork. With branches across Canada it's fairly easy to find one that's near you - or a store that can at least deliver for you. We're totally loving their merchandise. Seriously: visit the Castlefield branch in Toronto and prepare to swoon. The massive, cavernous outlet is a veritable museum of gorgeous live edged tables, stacked shelving systems and wonderful lighting. Every time we go we find something else that impresses us. Little wonder, then, we've featured the store on several episodes of Cabin Pressure and on Cityline, Canada's longest running lifestyle show. Visit the retailers website for endless inpsiartion. On our Facebook account we showcased an absolutely stunning cut root console - check it out. Approximately $3.5K will buy you that beauty...
When adding fireside style to any project, we always seek out elements that are edgy and which add real schematic pizazz. That's why, when tackling many of our projects both on and off screen, we specify STUV fireplaces. Some are drum shaped, some are rectilinear, but they're all gorgeous. And we've put our money where our mouth is by using them in several of our own cottage projects. To considerable effect! Check out www.cabinpressure.tv to see then in our own homes!
Since building Grey Gardens, our principal Halliburton cottage, we'd always felt we needed to add a dedicated outdoors dining area. We toyed with the idea of putting it on our front deck but decided we wanted to leave that as a chill out, relaxing area. You know - with squashy sofas and big, comfy chairs. SO! We elected to build the dining area on the upper deck in front of our guest bunkie. In association with Discovery Dream Homes we opted for a large open pergola (not dissimilar to the one at Plan B) under which at least a dozen dinner guests can be easily accommodated. Nicole and Shawn drew up the plans, did all the necessary planning applications and hey presto - this is the result. We're super impressed, as always, by the full service that DDH produced. From 3D walk through visualisation to ordering all the necessary parts, they did it all. And the entire structure was constructed using Western Red Cedar. Dreamy!
This is another part of the Western Red Cedar project on which we're currently working - a car port envisioned by us and expertly architecturally drawn and brought to life by Nicole and Shawn at Discovery Dream Homes. We LOVE singing their praises as we've done many projects with them and they've made a fantastic job of bringing our dreams to life every time. This two car beauty is constructed entirely from Cedar so you can imagine the olfactory quotient is substantial. DDH brought the materials to site (sourced by Tom at Nu Forest) and the car port was carefully erected by Greg Brown Construction, great allies of ours in Halliburton. We're super happy to recommend all parties!
So if you've watched Cabin Pressure over the years you'll know we love to create outdoor spas with hot showers, hot tubs and saunas. As part of a large digital space activation - in association with Real Cedar and Western Red Cedar - we've been working on webisodes that will air in early 2018. One of the inclusions we added was this awesome barrel sauna made entirely from Cedar. You may remember that during one particular season of Cabin Pressure (Cottage Life television) we added a similar sauna, at Plan B, our rental compound. We loved it so much we decided to add another at Grey Gardens, our principal cottage. This time round we specified a slightly different model with a super sexy smoked Plexiglass viewing window at the front. It's become a HUGE talking pint amongst all our guests who LOVE being able to enjoy the benefits of a beautifully healthy sauna whilst at the same time keeping an eye on the world. It's got a real retro feel and we can't stop staring at it whenever we're resident at Grey Gardens. DREAMY GORGEOUS!
Okay - so we LOVE this faucet company. From our early days on Canadian soil, right up to present tense, we've been uber fans of this stylish brand. In all our places (Toronto, Glasgow, London and at our cottage) we've specified various Rubinet taps and kitchen and bathroom fittings and they NEVER disappoint. From traditional to contemporary, these guys are veritable masters. And you can have the taps finished in a colour way to suit your project. All metal finishes are available in all styles, as are all colours. Flexibility is the company's watch word. Take a peek at the R-7 series. We just can't get enough. SWOON!
We've learned from personal experience that investing in inferior pans is a real case of 'you buy cheap you buy twice'. We're super keen home chefs (check our previous post about knives) and we use stove top as a huge part of preparation. We've long since been admirers of the Le Creuset collection and this particular set is an absolute cracker, not least because of its heat retention and easy clean qualities. We were introduced to Le Creuset by a professional chef during one of the TV shows we work on and its an introduction that has served us well in the kitchen. Superior products that look as good today as they did the day we acquired them. A definite recommend from us. Happy cooking!
We can't even begin to sufficiently swoon. The industrial vibe of this Wolf toaster is off the charts! Why do we love it? Due to its variable temp' controls, wide slots, bagel settings, easy clean and sheer beauty. This unit makes our life so easy as we're self confessed bread gannets. And we can fit pretty much any thickness of slice of any type of loaf in there. Awesome. Style and function in equal measure? What's not to like?!
Seriously: you have NO idea how obsessed we are by good oral care! Brushing our teeth has always been a compulsion and maintaining good standards of mouth hygiene is made really easy, having chosen Philips as our go to tooth brush brand. Our brushes recharge magically in a 'plug in powering glass' and have changeable heads for easy care. We're certain you'll be similarly impressed if you try them. We've used various brands over the years but Philips out polish and outclean the competition every time. Mmmmmm - and that minty fresh feeling lasts and lasts!
As much as our principal wheelhouse is home design, we are sooooo driven by cooking and preparing good food. It's long since been an utter obsession! You may have seen us on Celebrity Masterchef in the UK and on various food shows in Canada such as Neighbourhood Eats and Fifth Sense. Yup, we're self confessed gastronomes. As such, we're driven to kit out our kitchens with great utensils and quality tools. The best kitchen knives we've ever used? By A LONG SHOT the answer to that regularly asked question is Zwilling. In our condo - and at the cottage - we totally swear by their cutting technology and incredibly precise handling. Seriously - open our drawers and you'll find they bulge with these superior knives. We're major fans! https://www.zwilling.ca
We came across this Scottish composer and singer when working recently in Australia and have been obsessed ever since. His style is very underplayed. Very low key. Sublime stuff. A particular fave track is Here to There from the Architect album. Take a listen!
We ran into the guys behind this company at a BC home event and have remained super impressed by their olfactory prowess ever since. They make gorgeous candles (in various sizes) in an assortment of aromas, some of which represent neighbourhoods in Vancouver, other neighbourhoods in Toronto . And they also do a selection inspired by the Great White North. All premium soy with great burn times. Go check out their website and prepare to have you not scintillated!
We're super loving this cute gallery. Boss Lola Koreki has curated a great mix of contemporary artists in the space to the rear of the Rebarn store. Changing exhibitions feature several Toronto artists of note as well as a mix of cross candida mixed media painters, photographers and sculptors. DEFINITELY worth checking this place out. As a means by which to add colour and interest to your home or purely as investment. Win win, right?
This from the book's publicity: Denmark is often said to be the happiest country in the world. That's down to one thing: hygge. 'Hygge has been translated as everything from the art of creating intimacy to cosiness of the soul to taking pleasure from the presence of soothing things. My personal favourite is cocoa by candlelight...' You know hygge when you feel it. It is when you are cuddled up on a sofa with a loved one, or sharing comfort food with your closest friends. It is those crisp blue mornings when the light through your window is just right. Who better than Meik Wiking to be your guide to all things hygge? Meik is CEO of the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen and has spent years studying the magic of Danish life. In this beautiful, inspiring book he will help you be more hygge: from picking the right lighting and planning a dinner party through to creating an emergency hygge kit and even how to dress. Meik Wiking is the CEO of the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen. He is committed to finding out what makes people happy and has concluded that hygge is the magic ingredient that makes Danes the happiest nation in the world...
So we've worked with these guys on a load of projects and can assure you their products and service standards are astounding. Company director - and chief artisan - Mark Livingstone has carved a reputation as the best supplier of barn board in Ontario. But his biz is about SOOOOOO much more than that. Mark and his team make breath taking barn doors (we've featured them on a number of TV shows such as Cabin Pressure and Cityline) and their design and manufacturing are top notch. We're super impressed and would have no hesitation recommending their services. Check out their website for inspiration!
Seriously - we have A LOT of dust at the cottage so we need super capable products to keep it at bay. This lil' baby ranks amongst the best vacuums we've ever used. Flexible, lightweight and powerful we find it invaluable. It's so good, in fact, that we're putting another one on our shopping list for our condo!
Reduced boiling noise, replaceable element to extend life, fill indicators so you need only boil what you need AND lovely aesthetics? It's gotta be a Dualit, right? RIGHT! Our homes are packed with these appliances and none of them (toasters, kettles etc) have ever let us down. We particularly love the copper detailing tones of this particular appliance. Super cute looks!

Filming TV shows everywhere (in Britain, France, Spain, Canada and Australia) we've long since been lovers of D&A rugs. We've been ordering lots of their geometric and bold striped options but lately we've fallen in love with their paid designs. Cut and paste our link and drool over their collection. Their inventory is so well made and we can hardly recommend them highly enough. Seriously good quality flooring which we LOVE!

Before working in TV, and long before we'd launched shows in Canada and Australia, we were British magazine stylists and feature writers. We contributed to many shelter titles, in fact, across the world and, for a period, were Celebrity Homes Editors with Livingetc. In fact it was this position that brought us to the attention of The BBC, some 15 years past. They hired us on the back of our work at the magazine. For this reason - and many reasons - we LOVE Livingetc. The August issue is particularly info and design packed and features many homes, from The LA Hills to the French Riviera. DREAMY! Get your copy now or read it on line via this link...

We've long since been admirers of Kelly Hoppen. As a decorative global visionary, she has outlined style for the world for more than 20 years. Her association with wallpaper giant Graham and Brown has been hugely successful and it's little wonder - the pairing is a match made in heaven. Check out her collection by copying and pasting this link into your browser. SOOOO many gorgeous options...

We've been big fans of this brand for a long while. The number of C&J client homes in London that have sofas and chairs from the retailer is crazy. We've found the company to be reliable and the inventory always good. We were in store this week for a Chelsea client job and immediately fell in love with this Miss Behaving chair. Suiper sweet, huh?
Oh we LOVE this place. With a vibrant mix of home products, cleverly designed accessories and objets trouvee this adorable style mecca will have you swooning. This table is a lovely piece but just one of hundreds of cleverly selected inventory items. Located at 2 North Terrace, Alexander Square it's well worth visit. We're MAJOR fans! www.mintshop.com
Many years ago, having long since been in love with the work of uber creative Anouska Hempel, we wrote to her offices to ask for an interview. We were young writers, at the time, for The Glasgow Herald newspaper. We made the mistake of starting our letter: 'Dear Ms Hempel... Shortly thereafter we received n acknowledgment from her office declining our interview due to a busy diary. It's author, probably her assistant, requested that in any future missives we address her as Lady Weinberg. We loved here even more after that telling off... This book is astounding and freely covers her accent into the higher echelon of design. Hotels, houses, apartments and more. We were and remain fully in love with her style.

We ran into this manufacturer at the Cottage Life Show and were totally blown away by their gorgeous portable pre fab design on wheels. This model would be perfect for soon many purposes! Check out the family business's web site. We're in love!
Here's a fun series you shouldn't miss! The entire Novogratz clan have upped sticks and moved to the Hollywood Hills - scene of 'The Castle Next Door' an ambitious reno series on People.com Yup, it's a castle - and they're moving in. This fun, tight knit family are uber creative so we're expecting great things! They also have a really interesting book (we've read it cover to cover) which we've used to illustrate this post. Give the show a watch and grab a copy of their colourful uplifting style tome. Both fabulous!
As resident experts on Cityline, Canada's most influential morning show, we get to work with the industry's top names and most influential players. Frankie Flowers (you'll also know him as Frank Farragine,Toronto's most trusted weatherman on BT, the city's most popular news show) has become a pal and we LOVE his no nonsense approach to gardening, food growing and anything outdoors related. He's written loads of best selling books and this new one is an absolute cracker. Wanna learn a degree of self sufficiency? This book will show you how. Pretty much anything growable is covered (fruit, vegetables, herbs etc) and all the info is delivered in a reader friendly way that will empower you to get out there and start planting and harvesting you own bounty!
The design scene in Vancouver is amazing. Allows has been - but it just keeps getting better. This store is a go to for us when we land in BC. Find it on Homer Street in Yaletown. In Vancouver this week for our continuing Cabin Pressure press junket we headed in here when our time eased off a little. Gorgeous shopping experience, great homewares - many of which have a lovely Skandi feel. Dash in now and lust after the company's beautiful inventory.
What's not to love? On Church St in Richmond, Melbourne, is located Meizai, a monolithic hanger style store full of awesome furniture and modern home styling. If you're putting together a small project or curating a large design, this store has something for you. Of special note are the staff who went out of their way to assist us to ensure we found exactly what we needed. Pop in... but take you credit cards as you'll want to spend spend spend!

Located in Richmond - this store is a must. High end yet affordable, it proffers a stellar range of furniture pieces and a greta collection of accessories and decorator pieces. We wandered for ages! Seriously sumptuous sofas, great tables and a host of associated bits and pieces to bring your project alive typify this beautiful store. Set aside loads of time as the outlet is big and packed with inspiration!

We stumbled across this store while out and about in Prahran, one of Melbourne's coolest shopping and entertainment districts. Against a snowy white walled backdrop is arranged an inspired collection of home wares and accessories. Think jewel toned glass, pottery, candles, small furniture items and so much more. Def' worth a visit when you're in the district. Shop a while, then go hit one of the hood's cool cafes for a restorative flat white...
Seriously - this resource is awesome. The curator, Phoebe, steers away from typical gifting and home accessories and focusses instead on artisanal crafts such as clay pencil pots and hand crafted wicker goods. The inventory is gorgeous and the store a joy to plunder. Check it out on line or in person in Melbourne. Dreamy double dipped gorgeous!
Really impressive inventory. What's more, any assembly is taken care of by Swoon's delivery partners. Kinda clever. Great range of furniture and affordably priced into the bargain. Check out the website for inspiration.
We just can't get enough of this chair. Just a tiny part of the inventory at Mjolk in Toronto, it's a symphony of wood and leather with an arresting design that makes us swoon. Check out Mjolk on line or in store. Their inventory is substantially Scandinavian and Japanese - an interesting stock mix that is just, well, so dreamy. We're uber fans x

We've LOVED Mud Australia since we first discovered them whilst working recently in Sydney. There's a delicate edge to the company's manufacture that sends us wild with pottery desire! All products are hand made using finest French porcelain and each is prettier than the one before. Have a look at the company's website and be inspired. Being that we'll be back in Oz for much the early part of 2016 we're already planning on stocking up!

This is SUCH a gorgeous read: we were given it by a pal who shares an affection for rural Australia. We've been travelling lots between Sydney and Melbourne this year (we're birthing a new Oz TV opp: details to follow) and have fallen in love with the cities we're discovered. But we also have an affection for rural Australia that we haven't been able to properly examine due to our timetables. But all that is going to change! In the meantime, this awesome book delivers inspiration in spades. Browse this listing and prepare to fall in love with the country... down under!

Less than a buck for al the rustic inspiration you'll ever need? This is a wickedly good buy! Every room, project by project and stage by stage. Seriously - a bargain!

We literately can't get enough of this store when we're in Sydney, Australia. In fact this is the SECOND time we've posted our enthusiasm on here. Case goods, tables, textiles, ceramics. And lighting - HOLY MOLY! It's a swoon swoon swoon environment. If you're in Oz and haven't been - pay a visit. And if you're about to visit - battle a path here for awesome home decor and design inspiration.

In and out of Vancouver as we often are on work junkets, we're forever scanning blogs to ensure we don't miss all the good stuff. This article, posted on Design Sponge by Sabrina Smelko, offers great insight into Vancouver's increasingly stylish side. You KNOW we love Toronto - but we've been having a secret affair with BC's jewel for many years...

It's little wonder the new tome by Scottish journalist and author Matt Bendoris is currently nominated as 'Bloody Scotland Crime Book Of The Year': it's a fantastic read.
The story? A TV talk show host in America has 10 million Twitter followers, but, building this massive following, he's antagonized a lot of people along the way. And he's has received multiple death threats into the bargain.
When the controversial host is shot dead, the police have their work cut out. How can they sift through his 10m followers to find his assassin? When the actual killer starts sending cryptic messages the story builds. It's a compelling narrative with twists and turns that will leave you on the edge of your seat.
Matt's last book, Killing With Confidence, was a big hit and attracted multiple plaudits... and it looks like this new novel will attract similar acclaim. Currently on a kindle promotion, make a point of reading it - you WON'T be disappointed.
Wherever we are and whenever we're filming, we ALWAYS try and visit the best markets that we can find. This in mind (and as research for a couple of projects) we hoofed it to Alexandria in Sydney to check out this place. And we weren't disappointed. From stylists to TV designers and from stagers to home decorators and collectors - they're ALL about this precious collectible mecca. We're helping an Australian client with some propping for their soon to launch 1950's inspired B&B and we found SOOOOO many gorgeous things. Give this place a visit! You WON'T be disappointed! Gotta say that Australia is a HUGE leading force not just in modern design, but in antique and retro sourcing. Is it any surprise that we're falling in love with our new third continent!?

We LOVE this Australian design store. Specialising, as they do, in hand made artisan pieces (case goods, ceramics, linens and SO much more) they have a stunning inventory. Originating in Melbourne, but now firmly entrenched in the Sydney retail design scene, Planet's store is awesome. Wherever you are in Oz - there's a full website from which to specify.
Really good quality pieces and a handmade feel prevail. Check out the website.

OMG - we LOVE this book. It's a perfect observation of design 'simplicity', and it's FULL of stunning imagery and concise, informed text. It's little wonder the glossy tome has become a New York Times best seller. Leafing through the pages we felt like wee boys in a candy store - seriously, it's just stunning. Every decorating style is considered from stark minimalism to earthy, woodsy environments that draw on natural, timeless decor. Jump on line and take a look and then bag a copy. It'll send you to decorating heaven!

Whenever we stumble across a cute store we have to post and tell you guys! This retailer, on Dupont in Toronto, has a firm belief that every piece of design they sell should be both beautiful and functional. We like the store's cheery demeanour and the inventory is really cool. From candles to cushions and from bowls to textural throws, the store is SO worth visiting. Head on on there!

We defo recommend this awesome lifestyle TV series! Not just because it's a fun watch (Amanda, Baz, Miguel and Dr Chris are lively and entertaining hosts) but because we're going to be doing a little work with the show! Yay! Catch us in March (13th and 27th) as we sex up the suburbs with TWO very different makeovers. One is an explosion of yellow (and sure to polarize viewers - but hey: we always push boundaries) and the other is a retrained vision of dreamy washy blue and softest green. Hope you chaps will tune in next month! And in fact tune in right now as the show is SOOOOOO entertaining! We recommend it highly!

Whenever we're in Oz we pop in and see these guys. The company's environmental conscience is just astounding. They import and manufacture some of the loveliest howewares we've ever seen and they do everything with respect to our great earth Go check out their Eastern philosophy by visiting the website and prepare to SWOON at their selection of homewares and accessories. GORGEOUS. You LUCKY Australian people having access to all of this dreamy inventory!

Bring in the new year in Australia with one of our favourite magazines. Loads of great tip and tricks to enjoy! Seriously: this title is awash with awesome decorating ideas for indoors and out. Hence the title! In Canada, we've been reading this magazine on line for as long as we care to remember... so it's a joy, now, to be able to pick up a 'hard copy' each time we're in Australia! Practical advice and tips as well as features on realistically priced product make this a must have magazine. We HIGHLY recommend it!

Milk Paint is an ancient all-natural paint containing basic ingredients including milk protein (casein), limestone, clay and natural pigments. When absorbed into the surface, Milk Paint will never chip or peel when applied to a raw wood surface. It is suitable for both interior and exterior applications and is naturally mold resistant. Milk paint provides a completely breathable coating and is ideal for painting wood, plaster, drywall and a variety of other surfaces. It is environmentally friendly, non-toxic and contains no VOCs.
With the Milk Paint Bonding Agent you can use Milk Paint on even more surfaces such as previously painted walls, varnished surfaces, ceramic tiles, metal, glass etc. Without the bonding agent, Milk Paint will resist some prefinished or prepainted surfaces to achieve an authentic “chippy” look.
Go take a look at this website! Okay, so they're not the cheapest company you'll ever find but their inventory is dreamy. This decanter makes us weep and wail. As we said, a little pricey but the company have a great reputation and the quality is generally on the money. Go splurge! x
Holy crap - we LOVE this company. As long time fans of wall murals, we're excited to have showcased some great Ink Shuffle decor on a recent episode of Cityline. Check out the company website for inspiration. Pretty much any decorative vision can be materialized. The only thing that'll limit your final vision is imagination. SO GET PLANNING!
Hmm? Like it or love it? We product tested this paint additive and found that it's actually pretty impressive - a cool way to add lasting aroma to your space as a consequence of decorating!
Dreamy swoon. Nice tiles. We're totally smitten with this company, Cement Tile Shop. Check out the website and weep! Their collections, particularly the moody grey, dramatic black and washy white geometrics, are awesome.

This NYC ceramicist continues to deliver an astoundingly gorgeous collection of wares. We love her cups, saucers and her edgy, slightly rustic vibe. The organic 'no two pieces the same' vibe is sublime.

Go check out this wicked website for a great range of whimsical homewares and art. We particularly love the 99 buck bedding collection. Some really cool linens. Foxy?

Having worked with Rebarn.ca the sister company of The Refined Pallet (we LOVE that play on words) we're smitten with these guys. Check out their creations -really imaginative, sometimes whimsical and always well made. Gorgeous. Just gorgeous. http://therefinedpallet.ca/
Holy crap - you HAVE to see these products. We've used them several times lately on TV shows such as Cityline in Canada and in newspaper editorials and they NEVER disappoint. The company stock loads of precious wee adornments that are sized to fit regular Ikea products. Scan the website for details. Think gold chevrons, wicked striped, white Greek key lay ons... the list is ended. A great value way to personalize the already wonderful furniture range from Ikea! x
Thrilled to see the new jewellery collection by our our dear friend Ann Banks. Visit Made From The Heart By Banksie on Facebook to see more of this talented artisan's work. Ann, before moving into jewellery - and associated home decor items such as curtain tie back and napkin rings - was one of our very first producers at BBC Birmingham. And it was she who created and produced our 'punch through' series - The Million Pound Property Experiment. Were it not for Ann, our career mightn't have given us that which it has. We adored her from the moment we met... even though she was very strict with us as her 'new talent'! Ann, you see, hails from the grande dame school of TV producers - she's very professional, supremely creative but VERY caring. As we settled into a new city, Ann became like a Birmingham 'big sister' as we dealt with home sickness and missing our family and friends 'up the road'. She mixed praise for our achievements (where appropriate) with stern words (whenever required) but she always found time to make sure we were 'ok'. We've been pals ever since. We wish her nothing but great success and business contentment with her exciting new venture. Colin and Justin xx
While searching through various 'makers' as possible subjects for various upcoming media projects, we found this lovely company in BC. Some stunning, hand made products and some really clever wood tooling ideas. We LOVE!
And well priced too. Take a look. Particularly good range of outdoor lamps... C&J

You can blame Sue Watson for foisting us on the design world - it was she, after all, who gave us some of our very first gigs, years back, at the BBC. She gave us such a brilliant start. She always believed in us. Back then, as one of our producers on shows like Housecall, she worked her socks off to deliver fun, creative and informative TV. We remember her whispering to us one night, over a glass of wine, that she dreamed of becoming an author. Well... she did precisely that. And now has several best selling books under her belt. We're thrilled to inform you of this, her latest tome. Sue - you're a credit to the world of writers; a fun and energetic author who informs, excites and entertains. At last. Some (limited) Muji...online. To this day, we malign the passing of the Glasgow store. And we appeal to the company to try again in a smaller venue. That was then, so come on; Muji would SO work in Glasvegas. Anyway - our posting this evening describes the online adjunct for the awesome company, set up primarily for delivery in America. But, with shipping, there's despatch to lovely Canadaland. Get shopping! http://www.muji.us/store/
Over the last decade or so we've edited and written for all manner of stylish home interest magazines. In the UK we were Celebrity Homes Editors of Livingetc mag and in Canada we've appeared in numerous titles. So we're hard to impress! In Australia we really rate the Grand Designs magazine and we totally love Inside Out - which we've in fact referenced here previously. Its a great mix of lifestyle idea and beautifully shot homes. Shopping, tips, property porn - the lot. Take a look! We totally recommend this magazine! Colin and Justin x

Ok, so you're gonna have to sift through a LOT of inventory to get to the good stuff but it's SO worth it. Check out some great geo rugs, upholstery, awesome lighting and smart case goods. All things considered, though, there is some good stuff. But as we said - prepare to sift...

You'll either love these or hate these. Us? We love 'em. Reminiscent of some crazy 50's Palm Springs resort, they're right up our designer street. Doubly gorgeous. Currently figuring out where we can use them in our own place...
As we said - love or hate. You're unlikely to be on the fence...

Arriving in Melbourne was an awesome experience. We stayed for the first few days at a hotel called The Prince in the buzzing Sy Kilda district. A really lovely place and we'd stay there again in a heartbeat. WE just wanted to nod a cap of respect towards their restaurant The Prince. The surroundings are as eclectic as the hotel itself and their menu is wonderful. We had organic lamb which was so on point we nearly cried. GORGEOUS. Anyway check it out if you go. The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make us welcome. Look out for great salads, awesome pasta and an environmentally sustainable attitude to their menu design. REALLY lovely place x
We fell in love with Australia during our recent trip. Like REALY fell in love with the country. One of the districts of Melbourne where we stayed was called St Kilda and, on Fitzroy St, we discovered this gem of a store that carries SO many cute found and reclaimed objets. Such a great inventory. Friendly staff. Check out the website...

We just can't get enough of this straight to the point poster company. No fuss, just a limited collection of great wall art. Go take a look!

We're very fussy when it comes to book recommendations... but this one terrific tome is an absolute beauty. Stunning photography captures a huge collection of work by the designer. One of Nunnerley's real skills, apart form being a great modern designer, is her ability to create mood and atmosphere.
It's hard NOT to love this on line retail store. Created originally in Melbourne, the company boasts a stunning inventory of crafts, gifts and art, etc. Sourced locally and from around the world, we're totally loving the concept...
Having relocated from New Zealand to Sydney, real life and business partners Bonnie and Neil have carefully established their name as a huge force to be reckoned with on the Australian design circuit. Covering textiles, crockery, table wares, napery and more, their inventory is an utter joy. Australia's already burgeoning design calibre is all the better for their arrival on the creative scene.

Really loving this gorgeous magazine. Yup, we're getting into it like honey smacks. Our art director Laura has been a fan for ages and recently introduced the title to us. Here, as an example of the kind of content they carry, is a selection of spindle backed chairs, as seen in the current issue... Go leaf those pages!

Ah, The Woodlot. We LOVE these guys! Based out of Essex, Ontario, we met them at a recent exhibition and were utterly blown away by their crafts. They make - amongst many other things - beautiful small objects like buttons, key rings and scarf pins. Gorgeous. Just gorgeous... Take a look! https://www.facebook.com/thewoodlot
Breaking with the standard shape and typical lines of bed design is always a risk, but in this case it really paid off. The sloped bars command attention and we love the natural wood tones played along side the cotton head boards.

As lovers of an urban life AND the country idyl, we often struggle to find decorative components that satisfy both sides of our design predilections. This crockery, however, really hits the mark. Glazed white and hand aged around 'live' edges, we totally admire its gentle hand thrown style lines. GORGEOUS! http://www.crateandbarrel.com/marin-white-dinnerware/f40522?aff=cj
There are several good books on the home design market that pertain to re using old items in fun, new ways but we reckon this is one of the best titles we've seen. Our old pal Kelly Hoppen, mega interior designer and Dragon, has another gorgeous book in the pipeline. Def' one to mark in your diaries. We love her cool approach to design and her no nonsense take on business...
This is a highlight in our year; we LOVE the Andrew Martin Review - it's like the Oscars of the interior decorating world. When the book arrives in our office we immediately swoon.
This glossy tome, just like all its predecessors, is CRAMMED with gorgeous work from some of the world's finest interior designers and architects. We dare you not to love it!

You KNOW we've always loved fizzy drinks machines but now Soda Stream have gone one step further and designed a machine with metal detailing instead of plastic. Okay, so it's $130..... but it'll save you a fortune in thirst quenching. Sounds good?

Working on a top secret new show (deets in a week or so when the network make their announcement) and just run into this brilliant company who sell THE BEST barn door ironmongery we've ever seen. Just take a look at the company website!

Blimey - the rug selection in Ikea at the moment is SO worth a look. We've just bought this one, with thick tufted pile. But we're not using it on the floor - we're framing it in deepest chunky ebony and hanging it as a texture scape in a client's hallway. A VERY affordable big statement. Guess that's one of our most regularly espoused statements - look at things differently to accord them new and exciting purpose!

What's not to dreamy love about this range at CB2?

At last! A great retro furniture and accessories destination in Glasgow. We KNOW this outlet will be a mix of cool finds and affordability as it has been launched by the team who operate McKay Flooring, a firm we believe to be the best flooring retailer in Scotland. We've worked with them on several projects and their stock is always utterly fantastic.
But anyway - back to the world of second hand, previously loved and retro. 'Love Salvage' will be a 'first source point' for many of our projects when we need that 'special' find or interesting piece. We really admire companies such as these guys who 'understand' salvage, 'previously loved' and reclaim - their merchandise gives 'stuff' a second chance and, in doing so, helps the environment. Please 'like' their company facebook page and help spread the word.

'Made' have a brilliant collection of home wares and this range of artwork has really caught our attention. Very much in the Great Gatsby style it's on the money. VERY Art Deco...
At Made, aside from art, you'll find sofas, chairs, tables, lighting and a whole load more at seriously realistic price points. Go figure! Go spend. Go stylish!

We've specified products for private clients in the Blue Dot NYC store - and in their gorgeous LA sister store - and have looked upon the company as a 'designer secret' for some time!! But come on; isn't it about time we dished our secret sources? Yay! It's time you shared the joy; the stores are expertly run and curate a really cool selection of modern homewares. We LOVE the Scamp table as featured here. Click on the website for Blue Dot product across Canada and further into the States...

But we only collect gorgeous books. Those that contain great stories.... Or those that are pictorially beautiful tomes bursting with wonderful homes or travel destinations....
And this book doesn't dissapoint. Beautifully written and accompanied by stunning photography that depicts these 'healing hotels'; destinations that help balance the mind and rest the soul. Beauutiful. Just BEAUTIFUL!

OMG! To say we've just emptied an LA client's design budget is an UNDERSTATEMENT!!!!
We love this shopping strip in LA. Okay, it can be pricier than some of the quarters we visit for our US clients but there is some wicked stock to plunder. Antique, modern, Mid Century, the whole lot...
We particularly love Dragonette where you'll find some droolsomely gorgeous stuff. Check out the website for further inspiration. We're SOOOO exhausted after this weeks trip (we travelled directly from NYC) but it was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO worthwhile.
Go shopping. Just remember to take your credit cards!!

The stunning ABC Carpet & Home is an joyous emporium crammed full of carpets, furniture, lighting. sculpture etc... If modern, traditional, funky, eclectic, antique, gothic, is (are?) your thang you'll swoon. This is one of our favourite stores in the whole world. And boy, we've trogged the retail sector in almost every country! We spent the ENTIRE day in ABC during this weeks trip to NYC and enjoyed lunch AND dinner at the ABC Kitchen. AWESOME FOOD! WHAT are you waiting for? Oh yeah; it doesn't publish till the 16th April. Oh well; you read it here first. Patience!!
Cute wee 'vertical' garden system from Myurbio - www.myurbio.com This wee wall mounted system is a great way to bring the outdoor in. Whimsical, sure, but we thought you might approve? We came across it when sourcing for a solarium in a client condo. We've maxed up by covering an ENTIRE wall using these, each compartment filled with a different succulent plant. GORGEOUS! Check out the website for further images. This is a 'Colin and Justin Recommend' item without a doubt! What d'you guys think?

This has long been a favourite magazines but the current issue is especially wonderful. The cover story features Elton John and David Furnish's exciting new Los Angeles home. Perched, dramatically, on the hillside, it's an extraordinary space which was ccreated for the couple by British (but LA based) interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard. Having interviewd Bullard about a home he designed for Cher, we understand his passion and love of design.
Throughout the Bullard project, greens, blues and reds play out on a predominantly white background to stunning effect. The whole home is the perfect backdrop for a stunning collection of photography and artwork by some of the world's most acclaimed designers and artists.
On news stands now.

Mono Centre Salvage & Wood recenty caught our eye and we're already totally smitten. In this day and age with so much re usable product being sent to landfill it's SOOOOO refreshing to stumble across like minded people who are hell bent on making sure that less is wasted. When helping a US blogger compile a list this week of our fave interior design stores, this company popped up again and again. We've plundered their collection for clients in NYC and LA on several occasions and we're never dissapointed. We love the simple, organic products; the imaginatively curated collection is clearly very well planned.
Check out the painted naturally shed antlers. Cute! Perfect, perhaps, as a wall detail in a cabin or cottage.

We've meant to post this as a C&J Rec for ages! Sorry for the delay. We spent ages in this emporium last time we were in California and it's little wonder; the store is HWP FABULOUS!!!
De•Cor stocks breathatkingly gorgeous handcrafted artifacts, furnishings, reclaimed elements and hand-woven textiles that embrace the cultural and traditional arts of the Indian sub-continent.

For the love of God, this is a stonkingly gorgeous book. We've just bought a lake side holiday home in Muskoka (a couple of hours drive from Toronto) and this design tome is providing us with some fabulous woody inspiration to refit it's every nook and cranny. From chalets to mansions and from cottages to bunkies, every droolsomely gorgeous page is laden with wonderfully arranged homes with the emphasis on relaxed glamour. Forget concrete and acres of glass; this book is all about divine wooden homes, done properly. STUNNING!!!
Blimey - this is a great wee find. Crammed with inspired and simple products for the home, the premise is that the range doesn't land in regular stores. Reallly worth a look on line; there's some great kit. Clothes, jewellery and home products line up in a crafty homespun manner. Have a wee scan but make sure you confirm delivery and order times if you're gonna use this cute resource as a last minute shopping tool pre Christmas. We love this pink tea towel. We've always said; "A day without Champagne is like a day without sunshine", so we're totally on board for this product.

OMG - this is our favourite AM releases ever - volume 16. Showcasing some of the world's finest interior design talent, it's an orgy of beautifully shot design projects. Wallpaper seems to fall in and out of fashion more than any other home detailing aspect, but we've always been big fans. For those, like us, who enjoy its potential, this book will be a useful tool. Give it a wee read and roll it out!

We really LOVE this magazine. In a nutshell, it affords a nosey parker peek into some of Toronto's loveliest abodes. You'll be green with envy and there are loads of ideas to provide awesome inspiration.
In this issue you'll see all manner of condo's and houses but a particular strong point is the home of our pal Les Tomlin. It's a sky high condo with amazing outdoor space and views to die for.

Yay! At last the third book is out! These stories are SO SO wonderful and, for us, they are amongst the best written modern books available today. Damnation that we didn't grab our copies before leaving for Cayman! We would DEFO recommend these titles to anyone who likes fantasy dragon type tales. Gorgeous; just gorgeous. Colin and Justin xx
SUCH a good book. We interviewed the writers Maria Speake and Adam Hill of Retrouvius many years back and are thrilled to see them doing so well. With the UK economy somewhat dipped, this style tome has lots of clever design ideas to help make ends meet.
The Iconic Interior features 100 of the most important and influential interiors from around the world. Designed by a broad spectrum of fashion designers, artists and architects, set designers and decorators, these private spaces represent a wide range of styles, periods, and aesthetics. Here are such unforgettable spaces as Billy Baldwin’s design for Diana Vreeland’s New York City home; Edith Wharton’s famous New England house, The Mount; Coco Chanel’s legendary Paris apartment; Frank Lloyd Wright’s Hollyhock House; Tony Duquette’s California estate, Dawnridge; and Piero Fornasetti’s Villa Fornasetti. Organized chronologically, many of the interiors have been photographed specially for this book. Along with the lush photographs, each description is accompanied by a short biography of the owner/designer. The Iconic Interior is a complete guide to 100 years of influential, gorgeous design.
SOOOOOOOOOOO worth a read!

Really love the unusual 'floating' nature of these aquariums. The stockist have various different styles but this is our favourite. As always, when buying anything electrical, check it all out carefully. But it's SO cute, huh? We love fish so LOOK AFTER yours properly. They're pets, after all, not accessories...
Somehow, even though these guys are based out of Toronto, we had so far managed to miss them! That said, while visiting The New York Gift Fair earlier this week, we came across their friendly team and were rather taken by the interesting product range. Touching pretty much every sector of home wares, the Cocoon range is fun and affordable. Go visit!

JEEEEEEEZ! This guys is a REAL hero of ours. In this sumptuous book, Alberto Pinto excels at creating a perfect harmony of volume and space by bringing fresh inspiration to established design principles. He assembles an unprecedented range of styles by merging his client’s tastes with his own flair for creativity.
With an unobstructed view of a white sandy beach and shimmering turquoise water, a sprawling apartment in the exclusive Ipanema enclave of Rio de Janeiro is decorated in subdued earth tones, punctuated by animal prints and vibrant works of modern art. The interior of a classical orientalist residence in Kuwait reveals elaborate marble tile and wood details, while more modern spaces are furnished predominantly in black and white with judiciously placed accents in red. The details in a Monaco apartment subtly remind us that the home is perched above the Mediterranean Sea, while an ornate white-and-blue residence in New York is distinctly European in its rich use of antique furniture, ceramics, and ornate moldings. Other striking and sublime spaces include a palace in Riyadh and a home in Santa Rita, as well as grand yachts and private jets.
Blurb aside, we're weeping like baby kittens as we scan the shockingly gorgeous pages. Whatever you do and whichever other books you buy - grab yourself a copy of this tome as amatter of extreme and critical design urgency!
Published by Flammington, $85.
Sobs and faints with a glamour overload,
C and J xx
Good news? Yup, the lovely company now ship to 95 countries which means that, pretty much wherever you are, you can enjoy the wonderful range. Think Restoration Hardware (but less expensive) Habitat (from Britain) with an edgier touch and a wee spot of Pottery Barn flung in for good measure
We were in the Liberty Village branch in Toronto today specifying some lighting for a private project and were reminded just how cool a lot of West Elm stock actually is.
Great sofas. brilliant crockery and a stellar range of lighting. HWP? Count us in!

JUST GORGEOUS! Kishani is one of the busiest designers in Hollywood... and with good reason - we love her style. Mixing antique and retro with newer kit too, her store, 'Rummage', in LA is already legendary. Some fascinating radiator design here, for both gas and electrical supply. We love the tall white structures as illustrated on the accompanying pic here. From holiday homes in New York, haciendas perched above the Med', to slick villas, planes and yachts, this interior tome is breathtaking. Alberto's work is sensational and we fall at his feet to worship. Stunning. Absolutely bloody stunning...

Located on Italy's sun drenched southeast coast, the unique and rustic farmhouses of Puglia speak of a historic past. We swear to God this book is a veritable knee trembler. Utterly packed with 'farmhouse chic' info and gorgeous imagery we're wiping away tears of joy as we scan the pages.
Gorgeous. Just gorgeous.

We are very picky when it comes to recommending books - especially crafty, project led titles - but there's something absolutely dreamy about this wee tome. It's all about homes that appear larger than they are due to clever projects and intelligent decorating and it's CRAMMED full of useful ideas. A REALLY fab book that we'd strongly suggest you read!

Can't help loving this shelf. Ergonomically designed to hide cables etc, it's wall mounted and would make a compact home office surface, or a handy hallway stash point for keys and paperwork. Pricey at $499, but kinda cool nevertheless,

We're careful not to recommend too many books as there are loads on the market that are pretty similar, featuring many of the same photographs over and over again. But this style guide is different. Read the amazon blurb for all the details.
A truly inspiring title by a highlly regarded photographer who has access to some of the worlds finest homes.

Hells bells - if we can't have ALL of these lamps NOW were gonna freak right out. The lamps are so quirky and have been designed by Abigail A who seems to be the doyene of the cool style magazine circuit. SOOOOOOO cute!!!
We love Chapters Indigo and their accessories are often as interesting as their book stock. And, BTW, we're SO having one of these for our Toronto office! Priced at $39.50 this antique inspired brass 'antler' globe is as cute as a button! A great pressie, perhaps, for your global travelling friends?
We first met Mark many years ago when he still lived in Glasgow and have watched his career grow from strength to strength on ITV. A trusted regular on Lorraine Kelly's shows, he's adored by millions and has shown legions of people how to make the very best, in style terms, of what they have. And he's a confidence builder into the bargain - he makes people feel special.
Recently Mark launched his own Style Academy and, via his careful masterclasses that cover pretty much every aspect of looking good, you'll be able to learn many of his trade secrets. Enrol now to find that 'new you'!

‘Polls Apart’ by Clare Stephen Johnston. Despite a shattered, abused childhood, Anna Lloyd achieves the near impossible by becoming a famous actress + wife of a political party leader. But when a general election is called her past as an escort girl returns to haunt her and her hubby is urged by aides to cut her out of the picture. When the public learns of her tortured youth, Anna becomes a heroine, again beating the odds to become the most influential woman in the land. But at what cost? We both read the book in one sitting and it’s gripping to the max!

OMG - what a GORGEOUS book. And take it from us; we read pretty much EVERYTHING on the market. Marcel Wanders distinctive output combines a flair for the theatrical with a unique understanding of space that has vaulted him into the top ranks of contemporary design. His interiors projects range from iconic hotels like the Mondrian South Beach in Miami, to fairy-tale private residences in Amsterdam, Mallorca, and Jakarta.
Yup, this book really caught our attention; informative text and a host of dripping deluxe projects make it a must read for any self respecting style devotee!
Find it at www.amazon.ca (or .com or .co.uk )
This stunning store specialises in particularly high end product, much of which has an Italian or Scandinavian feel. We have to admit being pretty much blown away by this awesome company; with informed and very friendly staff, they've pretty much hit the nail on the designer head and are already becoming a must see stop off point for anyone in Toronto's design fraternity. Admittedly you're gonna need a second mortgage for a lot of Kiosk's merchandise... but take it from us it's absolutely worth every penny.
DEF' worth a look next time you're downtown,
Cheers and good luck,
C and J xx
Though we don't have a huge garden in Glasgow, we are nevertheless proud of our wee outdoors space and always looking for good sources of inspiration and product to bring it alive. Anyway, we stumbled into Dobbies today after a trip to Ikea and have to say we were SO impressed by the company's product range and by a friendly and informed staff.
Dobbies currently have some BRILLIANT garden furniture on offer, plus one of the best outddoor planting areas we've come across in a long time. PLUS we fell in love with the aquatic centre which boasts a stuuning selection of marine, warm water and cold water fish.
And did we mention the restaurant? We don't remember garden centre food being this good! Go check it out!
Cheers and happy gardening,

Check out this wee design haven, just off Byres Road, in Glasgow's West End. Some of the furniture is a wee bit too chunky for our own tastes but it's a popular destination, nonetheless, for West Ender's who like good quality hand made design. What we like about this store is its eclectic mix of smaller accessories and lighting. Certainly worth a wee look!

We featured this store last year in our Toronto Star column as a 'hot shopping' destination and now, with new branches, they're going from strength to strength. Without a doubt these guys rank amongst the best suppliers of seriously cool garden furniture we've ever used. We've posted a pic of the modular chairs we've just taken delivery of and they are bang on the money. Ours are actually in creamy white (we couldn't find a pic' so we've illustrated this with the grey version) and we got loads of sections so we've put together a sofa and two loungers configuration as well as complimentary coffee and side tables.
We'd been looking for totally NON run of the mill garden furniture for our roof terrace and we have to say this company were so easy to deal with and offered speedy, friendly delivery and value for money.
Check out the website for serious inspiration.

This is a C&J Recommend - IF, that is, you win the lottery. We swooned at this company's website but nearly fainted when we saw some of the prices. This particular chandelier is £30,170 and based on Ruben's 'The Fall Of The Damned', an art work that depicts sinners falling into hell. Designed by Luc Merx it has also been displayed at the V&A...
Have a scan at the site and be inspired by some stunningly beautiful (and often wildly priced) home design.

Confused about how best to care for and clean your leather sofa? Well panic no more - Scots stain guru Steven O'Neill recommends cleaning and protecting on a regular basis with water based products. This action will keep your leather furniture hydrated and supple. If you use a good quality leather protector, your leather will crack less and your sofa will look lovelier for longer. Simple!

LOADS of you have ben asking who, in Scotland, we'd recommend for kitchen updates, using existing cabinetry. There are various companies who'll add new doors and countertops, but the best, as far as we see it, is Reface Scotland. Quicker and more affordable than starting from scratch you should check these guys out! Loads of different styles and appliances to choose from.

REALLY impressed by the current issue of this magazine. The mag' is packed with fantastic shopping and amazing homes and is, perhaps this month more than ever, a step by step style guide that'll help you get the best from your nest. Some particularly great one off modern spec' homes are featured, and there's a wonderful ground and basement conversion article. Alll good... and on newstands now!
Thought we'd suggest these guys as a great source of furniture in Glasgow. When you think of Macdonald's you may initially think of more traditional styles like Ercol, and in fact the company do indeed carry a lot of stuff that is very grown up... BUT it may surprise you to find they also have some wonderfully modern stuff like the Content By Conran ranges. Have a little browse for some wicked inspiration. Tell 'em we sent you!
Cheers,

Really delighted to recommend these guys if you're looking for wardrobe solutions that are affordable and stylish. We're actually having them fitted in the dressing room at the moment in our Glasgow house and they're just fantastic. We'll post pics soon!
Style Bible: Decorate – 1,000 Professional Design Ideas for Every Room in the House by Holly Becker & Joanna Copestick, £30 published by Jacqui Small
Ideas, ideas, ideas – we believe it’s not how much money you spend on your home…but how much time and imagination you spend (to make it uniquely yours and ultimately stylish) that makes the biggest difference. So this book featuring great home ideas from some of the world’s great designers is worth its weight in gold. The likes of Jonathan Adler, Kelly Hoppen, Rita Konig and Abigail Ahern reveal essential tools of the trade, from where to put your furniture to how to dress a room with your own individual style. Divided into sections, ‘Space Matters’ has a blank-canvas approach, showing you how to best assess space and work out its specific decorating needs. ‘Setting Your Style’ profiles a huge range of different interior styles, while ‘Room by Room’ and ‘Attention to Detail’ sections provide exactly what they promise…
Guys! You GOTTA get in there! We recentlly picked up a Robin Day dining table and six chairs for an astonishing £80 - and that was after we paid double ticket price because we thought we were getting such a good deal!
Of course letting you in on our Sally Army destination means we have to share the potential bargains with ever more people but it's such a good cause. Happy shopping! x

Guys - this title is FANTASTIC!!! Lonny Online and Traditional Home have collaborated and the result is this wonderful online mag. And it's all FREE!!!
It makes for really good reading and contains some wonderful inspiration. Check it out!
Imagine having 100 deg C water on tap at the flick of a switch! That's precisely what we've become accustomed to while filming Celebrity Masterchef for the BBC. We can't say too much about the show until nearer broadcast save to report that the taps used in the kitchen are just wonderful. They supply water at 100 degrees and cost only 3p a day - a saving of up to 55% compared to a regular kettle.
So we've tracked them down to post as a C&J Recommend. We're really impressed by the product... Easy to install and energy efficient. Check them out!
These guys are a trade opeartion but if you're buying in bulk for a store or showroom they offer fantastic value. Cheers and good luck,

Some remarkably inexpensive dining table options from the guys at Abode. Great choices from £199!
As our lifestyles become increasingly compartmentalised, division by function is reflected in our homes. Today even modest homes are divided into living rooms, dining rooms, family rooms, breakfast rooms, kitchens, laundries and so on, increasingly in larger suburban homes – gymnasiums, libraries, bars and games rooms are installed. Based upon new lifestyle desires, advances in technology and an increasing demand for distinctly modern structures, Atelier have gone to the next level in the design and construction of highly efficient garden structures as more appropriate alternatives to existing architectural typologies namely conservatories and garden rooms. Blimey - we LOVE these guys and their wonderful product!
Okay, so this is generally a home related blog but when something catches our eye we need to tell you guys. So here goes...
Just found an amazing cook boook called Cooking With Balls featuring a whole load of chefs cooking with some top sports celeb's. Beatifully shot and well written it features sporting heroes such as Jonny Wilkinson and chefs like Raymond Blanc. DEF worth a read. It's published by Network and costs £25. Step up to the hot plate!
These guys are really interesting. More like a London supplier in terms of the way they operate and source. Trade only.
Go check out this company for amazing home deals. They've just relaunched their showroom in Scotland and some of their prices are amazing. Lighting, furniture, mirrors, case goods. You name it, it's there!
We're regularly asked about who we use when sourcing leather upholstery. There are several stores that we favour but we're particularly keen on Natuzzi whose motto 'It's How You Live' kind of sums them up. Great European design notes, stunning build quality and good delivery times. Check out teh wesbite for more info and a store near you.

These guys proclaim they make some of the best English furniture available and while it might be nice if they said 'British' or even added some Scottish proclamations... we still like their collections and while they're not the least expensive out there, their ranges of accessories and homewares are great. WOW!!!!!!!!! We LOVE this book. Urban living is becoming increasingly crowded. Small space living is no longer a lifestyle choice but a necessity in most cities where property is expensive and space is at a premium. Design for Small Spaces will bring together over 500 cleverly designed products that provide stylish and functional ways to make the most of a living environment with a limited footprint. A brief introduction discusses how interior design and spatial planning are key when every square inch counts, including top tips to maximize space efficiency. The primary function of the book is to aid the consumer to source suitable objects for his/her home and each product selected will be in production or available to order directly from the designer as a custom-made item. Detailed measurements are given, as well as full contact details of both designer and manufacturer.
We LOVE LOVE LOVE this company. http://www.jali.co.uk/

We've used these brick 'slips' as a wonderful way to add texture to plain walls on many of our projects both on and off scrreen. Approximately a third of the thickness of standard bricks they're easy to apply and create a realistic brick wall look. Def' worth considering if you'd like to add a little rustic charm to your home.

Thnks to our pals Fhiona and Gordon who sent Colin some cupcakes yesterday morning for his birthday.

Quite possibly the BEST pizza's and Italian food in Toronto? Not even sure why we put a question mark at the end of that statement as the fare in Terroni's is astoundingly wonderful. We had dinner in the Queen Street West location last night with friends Shaun, Shalini and Tina and we all agreed it was awesome. This resto chain have several branches in the city but this one, at 720 QSW, is extra special. If you're heading over, expect that you'll have to line up. The wait will be SO worth it though as the scran is delicious. Beautiful surroundings, friendly staff and a great wine list all add up to a super - yet casual - night out.
Inspired by the opening, this week, of the massive new Eglington Homesence, we're off out to our FAVOURITE branch at Sherway Gardens. We've long since been using this location for loads of our TV and magazine projects but today we're heading off to the magical aisles to find some interesting pieces for our own condo! We're doing a shoot on Tuesday for Canadian Home Trends magazine and we need a few extra lovely things. This branch is stocked full of amazing deals on linens, glasswares and small furniture items so we're gonna spend, spend, spend! But the good news is that the pricing mechanisms at Homesence are astoundingly good value. So we'll be finding, we imagine, maximum bang for our buck...
We happened into Structube's Toronto Store today and were pleasantly surprised by the rich, varied stock. These guys specialise in affordable home design and, as far as sofa's, chairs, tables, lighting and artwork are concerned, they're pretty much a one stop shop. Loads of high gloss finishes, brilliant vases and simple affordable accessories give this store a winning touch.
There are loads of branches in Quebec and Ontario so visit http://www.structube.com/en/our-stores for your nearest location.

This four level home design store in Toronto's East end is absolutely wonderful. Moooi and Tom Dixon feature heavily as do a host of other wickedly cool designers. Sure, it's not the city's least expensive destination, but it's SO worth a visit for brilliant inspiration. Located in one of Toronto's best design districts, you'll weep with longing for pretty much everything in store.
Go check 'em out as a matter of critical design urgency!

Todays BEST buy is a fourteen foot Canadian pine table with an angular black iron base and a lovely hand made feel. We spotted it in Roots on Bloor Street. Okay, so it's $2,200 (wholesale) but that's actually more than fair for a statement piece of furniture such as this. Because it's 'custom' you can upsize or downscale according to your own space and the price would adjust accordingly. The home department of Roots is small but perfectly formed and they specialise in unique one off 'vintage rural' pieces and all manner of precious country inspired benches, tables and accessories. Cushions are a particular strongpoint. Go check 'em out.
We LOVE this jaw droppingly beautiful store. Okay, so it's not the least expensive store in Toronto but it is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful and thoughtfully merchandised. From artwork to candles and from florals to luxe upholstery we'd suggest popping by as a matter of design urgency!
Here's some text from Teatro Verde's website which kind of explains the store in a nutshell...
Teatro Verde is a newly renovated Georgian mansion. 2 floors, over 9000 square feet of retail space, six designer room and 3 new collections.
Bridgland Estate is named in honour of the original owner of the Georgian mansion and has the feel of an old family home. Silver, gray and smokey tones are combined with velvet, linen and leather. This collection is home to the grand velvet banquette.
Boutique is an eclectic mix of scale and style. Chinese Fu dogs adorn an Empire cabinet while French print negatives are surrounded with Damask. Unexpected and intriguing this collection draws you in.
Era has the glamour and sophistication of Hollywood in the days of noir films. Dragons adorn rugs and tables while the velvet and silk pillows are edged with black feathers and studded with Swarovski crystals. Indulge yourself with Era.
Teatro Verde, 98 Yorkville Avenue

Major rebrand of store interior makes an already lovely shopping experinece that little bit better. We LOVE these gys and their ranges are inspirational. Saying that, the New York store, fitted out as it is in a fusion of soft greys, is still our favourite branch.
In a state of mild panic (to complete a guest wing in our Glasgow home) we dashed round the city trying to find an upholsterer that could make us a deep buttoned bench using lovely Calzeet tartan. The main problem is time; we need this in a jiffy. Just as we were about to give up we found Jacksons on Argyle Street and a lovely chap called John who is making us the bench in just two short days. The price he quoted is staggeringly good and the company have the most brilliant build quality from example we were shown. DEFINITELY a top tip from us. These guys are the business!
We DEFO recommend this wee clip. Proper laugh out loud stufff...

Working on our Glasgow property we've already had wonderful success with our regular house bathrooms, but we've been struggling to find a good wet room solution for our basement bathroom. However Aqua Dec by Impey have helped us problem solve. We'll post pictures of the finished room asap!
Great products at affordable prices and a really reliable service. We'd have no hesitation in suggesting them as a great supplier!

Really impressed with the recipe's, but just as impressed with the wit displayed by Dee, the author, with whom we've recently become friendly. if you wanna make THE BEST Martini's, this is the book for you!
If you get a chance to get over, here's our hot tourist tip. Many people say Verona is second in beauty and architecture to Rome, but we vote joint first for that particular accolade. We've just come back and have to report that this particular Italian city is VERY special. With just 260,000 residents it's not to big and not too small. Packed with wonderful galleries and awesome museums (not to mention hot shopping and wonderful terraced restaurants) this is a city we'll be returning too VERY soon. Try Jet2 as a great and affordable way of getting there.
Lick your lips and get ready to chew!!
We like to straddle as much of Canada as we possibly can. In fact we've got one leg in Toronto and the other leg in Vancouver. And with Manitoba being half way between both, what does that leave in the middle?! Lol!
We'd defo' recommend that anyone who hasn't been gets over that way. OK, so it's flat as a pancake, but the people are lovely and there are some lovely resto's and interesting galleries etc. Weather is breezy, but that keeps the temperature down a little. We've just come back and, while it was absolutely roasting, the locals advised us that in winter it gets down to -40. Blimey... Won't be wearing the kilts when we visit next time as that chill factor could turn the Scottish boyz into laydeez. Yup, we're talking serious retraction!
So jump across to Winnipeg. Its a super friendly town with clean air and a good buzz. And more tattoos, per capita (from what we could see, certainly) than anywhere else in Canada!
Cheers,
C and J xx
We've been using Glade products to scent our Toronto condo and their candles and air fresheners are second to none. Really natural aromas and long lasting results. Check 'em out!
Excellence in entertainment is an under sell - cos this guy is AWESOME! Big band, variety, jazz, blues: Craig, an internationally acclaimed performer, sings like a total superstar and we've had the pleasure of seeing him perform several times in the last twenty years. As a corporate entertainer he is perfectly positioned to pull your event together and create a little extra gloss for your guests.

We'd highly recommend these guys as installers of really wonderful fireplaces. Whether modern or traditional, they're one of Scotland's premier 'go to' companies. A remake of the classic 1973 thriller/horror, this is a great wee movie to grab on DVD. Great effects, good story lines and well played by all central cast.
Briefly - poison gets into the water supply of a small American town and slowly and surely the whole town goes utterly crazy, as per the title. Culminates with an end of the world style nuclear meltdown and chillingly real effects.
Kept us screaming and on the edge of our seats last night. Now go rent it and report back what you think via our forums?
Cheers me dears,
Yours in terrified trauma,

Could there be a more heavenly homes stores? These guys are genius. A clever mix of tribal, Pan Asian, retro and classic styles. If you only visit one store in S. Ken, make it this one. GORGEOUS!!! We interviewed Martin Waller, co owner, some time past for a newspaper editorial and his forward thinking nature is testament to his designer vision. All GORGEOUS!!
Gotta give a wee shout out to this mega talented kitchen design company. We installed an Alno kitchen in our Glasgow home a few years back in association with Creative Designs, and, to this day, we recognise it as the best money we've spent. Enduring style, brilliant service and a very European design ethic. Call the team and speak to Tom, the 'switched on' director. Good luck!

PS - plus she has THE MOST dreamy hair. What's not to love?
An alarmingly good sci fi thriller movie, although you'll need every ounce of concentration to keep up with the story as the gripping plot moves along. In a world where technology exists to enter the mind, Leonardo is on top form, chasing his family, as this dream invasion epic gathers pace. The CGI is astounding. Well composed, gritty and challenging, we were on the edge of our seats as the finishing line drew near. That little spinning top, without spoiling the story, is crucial so keep it in mind throughout.
And then there's the bonus of Michael Caine. We're MAJOR fans and, although his is a small role, he's a lovely character. Kind of playing the same role as he does in Batman he is a welcome addition to the narrative.
Or in other words: what a bloody brilliant film. Go book your tickets now! You WON'T be dissapointed!

These lovely peeps have supplied us with furniture for various TV shows, and, as well as their extensive product range they were utterly charming and product aware. Purchasing of any of these items might be an act of avarice, but OMG - this is one SERIOUSLY talented furniture maker...

With so much furniture, in current manufacture certainly, being similar in style, it's always refreshing to come across product composed of an altogether more individual nature. Which, losely translated, is design speak for:' 'Well blow me, dolly, this kit is freakin' awesome...'
These guys are AWESOME! We've just used them to create shower enclosures in our own home and they did a spectacular - and very good value - job. Give 'em a go!
We're often asked about home scenting and candles and so on and so forth. And so, while in Canada, we've been doing a wee bit of research to find the best on the market. And the results of our extensive research? GLADE! Go plunder your local store and stock up on one of the many products created by these guys. Fresh, invigorating and naturally scented, the products represent great value for money. Enjoy!
http://www.galletlytubbs.com This is a great wee designer resource on Great Western Road Glasgow's West End. Occupying the site previoulsy run by Back Street Pine, the owners are a clever pair who seem to be pretty much on the money as far as design is concerned. Okay, so iIt's not the cheapest store in Glasgow but it nonetheless has a wonderful stock list and we've been plundering its resources for our own Glasgow home. Def' worth a look!
Oh for the love of God you gotta watch this. Seasons 1 and 2 were shockingly bliss, but season three? BEYOND awesome. But meanwhile; we're now properly frustrated as it's not on in The UK yet... so we've missed ep' four as we're home in The UK for a bit. Still - we'll watch it on 'catch up demand' when we're back in Toronto and we'll still be ahead of all our pals in blighty! Yay!
Now while this may be an unusual 'C and J Recommend', it's nonetheless a relevant observation of one of the things we love! We've been guzzling Coca Cola (both regular and diet) for years, but today, as a change, we had some Pepsi. And d'you know what? It's altogether nicer. The diet version is smoother than Diet Coke and the regular variety has a much more refined flavour. So we're off the Coca Cola wagon and firmly on board as Pepsi fans! Cheers!

This fab new venue is named after one of our fave hotels in Toronto so we were instantly drawn...
Great food, lovely ambience and a really buzzy crowd. The owners and staff are really fantastic so if you want a great meal or just a few shandies, head on over. We're MAJOR fans.
We wish the team every success!
Good luck - hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2010/jun/12/cross-keys-pub-kippen-stirlingshire You may remember us enthusing about this wonderful place some time ago. Well, there's been AWESOME ongoing press (Gastro Pub Of The Year etc) and now The Guardian, too, have wised up to the charms of The Cross Keys. A fantastic family run business owned by our good pals Debs and Brian. It really is a very special atmospheric venue with a fantastically well composed menu and loads of rural charm. Go visit! Check out this interesting press release. We've been working with this fab company for years and, with the bank holiday approaching, we though we'd fill you in on all the news. Now get ready to renovate!

Go check out this website. Beautiful grooming products and curly hair specialists. And we LOVE the standing up to pee gizmo for the gals! Brilliant indulgent gifting ideas and self pamepering for anyone who likes to be spoiled!

We get hundreds of emails each day from people asking us to reveal our secret sourcing points for DIY projects. In the past we've used all the different DIY multiples but thought we'd present you with our top tip - WICKES. These guys seem to know exactly what their customers need and they've created a wonderful shopping environment with friendly, informed staff in each branch. We use WICKES on all our TV shows and have been nipping in and out of their UK branches to pick product for our homes in Scotland and London. Now if they'd only open a branch near our condo in Toronto we'd be sorted, both sides of the pond! Check out a great range of product at www.wickes.co.uk
This company is considered by most industry experts to be London's leading paint finisher. We'd strongly recommend these guys for any paint job you have in mind. Whether big or small, on site, or in their Camberwell workshop, these are the guys you need to create that professional finish... whatever your job. Featured recently by George Clarke from C4's Home Show, Paintwork's reputation is solid and their back catalogue of returning clients speaks volumes.

Check out this great company. We love this specialist effect. But it's often difficult to track down proper artisans. Well, problem solved! We feel a spot of special smoothing coming on!
Good luck and happy plastering!

Managed a sneek preview of the new restaurant which opens next week in Debenhams, Glasgow. Forget Macaroni and cheese in store type food - this cool new place is more 'ladies who lunch' style glamour. Well designed, comfy and offering a great menu it's the perfect stop off point for a little RnR as you shop till you drop!
Enjoy! xx
We've just had fake box hedge installed in our Glasgow house by an amazing company called Trees R Green. Brilliant service, VERY realistic product and great prices. We'd highly recommend these guys. Best, by far, in Scotland. 25 window boxes installed in no time and they're BEAUTIFUL! xx
Way and beyond fantastic. We LOVE LOVE LOVE this company. They are, as far as we're concerned, Scotland's premier Scottish outfitters with heaps more style and proffessionalism than any other supplier on the West or East coast.
We've been togged by these guys for years for projects in Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales and in France, Canada and America.
Why do we like them so much? Cos they really care about their standards and we admire their family business attitude.
Check them out at www.slanj.co.uk
Go visit Eleanor at Quidest in Glasgow. She's at 77 Hyndland Street and is, without doubt, Scotland's premier floral artist. We've used this boutique on a million and one occasions and never been dissapointed. Call 0141 334 2120. Particularly famous for her 'hand ties' and elegant bouquets, Eleanor is a true artist! xx

We reccomend REFACE SCOTLAND for an affordable update to your existing kitchen. They'll replace doors, counters etc at FAR less than the cost of a brand new kitchen. A VERY reliable company with a sound reputation for good work.
Check out Jasper Conran Country, published by Conran Octopus, £50.
OK - so it's a pricey tome but the stunning imagery and compelling text by our old pal Jasper is a winning combo. Cottages, mansions, stables, gardens, factories... in fact the works. REALLY gorgeous book. Enjoy!
Our very own jungle diva, Sabrina Washington has a new track in stores now. OMG is a delicious slice of robofunk sprinkled with just a hint of 'Snap' for good measure. Buy it on itunes.
OMG - New York City is the perfect getaway! Been ages since we were here... and now it's even better than before. Now that Times Square has been pedestrianised it just got better. Amazing galleries, theatres, deli's, cool bars and all manner of seriously chic people. Come on by! But Glasgow and Toronto are still our favourites!
Happy Easter!

SUCH a great scene kicking off. Worth checking out. Brilliant food and wicked service. Real diner style ambience. Make sure that Vampire looks after you - he's a quiffed dude with awesome earings and a winning smile. We'll be back!

This site, from a pal of ours in Montreal, caught our attention. Some fab work, eh? LOVE the outsized florals! xx

We're on at 2pm and 6pm Friday and Saturday.
We've recently discovered a fab wee resto' called The Rushton. It's in Toronto on the junction at Rushton and St Claire. Went there last month with Gale, our editor at The Star and again this week with our good friends Cherri and David. All agreed it was really lovely. Try the Maple Syrup Prawns and the lamb shank. Great service, friendly staff and a lovely room. Enjoy!

Jonathan Harvey's Beautiful People. Awesome! We've just watched season one and two and it's SO gorgeous. We fell in love with the simple, funny, observational story and were captivated by the time the first few scenes had played out. We reckon you'll fall in love with EVERY character. Beautifully written by Mr Harvey (whose name you'll recognise from, amongst other things, scripting Corrie) and based on the musings of Simon Doonan. Find it on Amazon. A really special wee show. When you've watched it PLEASE petition the BBC to make a third season. Love Colin and Justin x
Inspired by the organic textures and physical elements of the natural world, Bakari is a gentle, laid-back collection with a tranquil and contemporary twist. Presented in seven versatile colour stories, this delightfully undemanding and timeless collection will work well in all areas of the home.
Improve the sound of your home with the fourth studio album from Hot Chip: One Life Stand is a mix of softly delivered vocals over an electronic landscape that trips into 1980's electro and then spills its lovely sounds right into the 21st Century. We love Brothers, One Night Stand and Thieves In The Night and you will too! Available at
